ProHealth. Soft bristles. Contoured. Electric.

Never before has there been such a dizzying array of toothbrushes available to us. Consumers are inundated with new designs, materials, attachments, and colors. Whatever toothbrush design you choose, the most important thing is that you use that toothbrush at least 2-3 times a day (morning, afternoon, and evening).

Moreover, how long you spend brushing your teeth is as critical as how often you  brush. We recommend that you spend 2-3 minutes brushing, or for the length of your average song on the radio. Do a little dance, if you have to.

Dr. Perella recommends an electric toothbrush like Sonicare. The pulsations break up plaque efficiently and they automatically turn off after the recommended brush time, so you don't have to keep track. (But you still can do a little dance).

If you choose not to have an electrical toothbrush, choose a manual toothbrush with a compact head with medium-to-soft bristles. Hard bristles will eat away at the enamel.
