Fillings

At North Palm Beach Dentistry, we only use composite (white) fillings. No more metal!

A composite filling is a tooth-colored plastic and glass mixture used to restore a decayed tooth. They are also used for repairing a chipped tooth and reshaping disfigured teeth.

The advantage to a composite filling (as opposed to amalgam which is metal) is that the dentist can mix shades to match the color of the actual tooth, making it nearly invisible. Composites also prevent further breakage by supporting the remaining tooth structure.

The nylon-bristled toothbrushes we use today were invented in 1938.

What kind of toothbrush should you choose?

There are two types of toothbrushes: manual and powered. The size and shape of the brush should fit your mouth ...

WE LOVE IT WHEN OUR PATIENTS ARE HAPPY

We received the following Facebook message from our new patient, Kendall Bridgewater, who came to us for a consultation about getting veneers. We are so thrilled he enjoyed his experience with us. Stay tuned for some before and after pics!

"Thank you so much for the recommendation...what a great place. It was comfortable and relaxing. It was just a great atmosphere. Your husband is super cool, and the price was way cheaper that the last place I had work done at. For once, I am looking forward to going back to the dentist...LOL."

ARE SILVER FILLINGS SAFE?

Silver fillings, commonly known as dental amalgams in our dental world, were the chosen material used on teeth because of its performance under chewing or biting, durability, longevity, cost and ease of placement. The American Dental Association (ADA) states "Dental amalgam has been used by dentists for more than a century and is the most thoroughly researched and tested restorative material among all those in use today."

But what exactly is IN the dental amalgam?

Dental amalgam is a stable alloy made by combining mercury, silver, tin and copper in careful proportions mixed in a precise blend so there is no free or excess mercury. The ADA ...
